Lalit Mourya is proof grit works

1. Your name and title/business name? Country location?

My given name is Lalit Mourya but I prefer to go by my trade name which is Lalit Mourya Calligrapher. I am an Art Director in an Advertising Agency in New Delhi, India. I also do Freelance Lettering for many clients.

You can connect with me via social media at the following touch points:

FacebookInstagram and Youtube

2. Do you have a specialty or special style that makes you relatively unique? If so, what?

I am relatively new to Calligraphy, having taken it up only a year back. I am trying to explore as many new avenues and styles in calligraphy as I can before focusing on the styles I like best.

These days I am practicing Gothic, Italics, Brush, Copperplate and a few other styles as well. I love all kinds of calligraphy and lettering but currently my forte is in Gothic styles.

3. What's your educational background, i.e., college, professional school, high school, apprenticeship, etc.?

I have a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts (graphic design) from the Delhi College of Art which is a 4 year course. I apprenticed in graphic designing and illustrating post which I am successfully following a career in advertising design. I started Calligraphy just a year ago but I am pursuing it strongly and have already done a lot of freelance work for my clients.

4. Preferred tool(s) and medium?

I prefer various tools like parallel pen brushes, nibs, calligraffiti markers, automatic pens etc. I like to use photo-colour ink on hand-made paper and acrylic paint on walls for calligraffiti.

5. Where or how do you "recharge your creative battery" -  books, blogs, music, art, exercise, meditation, prayer, hobbies, interests, etc.?

My primary resource for creative research and knowledge are the excellent tutorials available on Youtube. In fact I must credit these tutorials for the fast learning I got. A year ago I did not even know what Calligraphy meant. And now I have started earning good money out of it too besides getting hours of joy chasing my creative passions.

I am inspired by Calligraffiti Ambassador, Mr. Karl O’Brien (Kobe) and I also like some others. I also love browsing Instagram, Behance and Snapchat for inspiration. My other hobbies include music, singing, painting, sketching and cooking.

6. Tell us something about you that might surprise or delight us.

I am a team member of Calligraphy Masters. Recently the Calligraphy Masters team organized an exhibition called The Design of Words. It was held in Acqua Su Marte in Milan, Italy. I was fortunate enough to participate in this awesome event and it was a great learning experience.
