Two trees in the neighborhood

I like the view from my kitchen window. I see the garden with native plants, the fruit trees, birdbath, and in the distance a very tall and thin palm tree. The palm tree grows from a backyard about a block away. I know this because I see it during an evening stroll through the neighborhood. The palm tree became a weather gage. During hot summer days it stays still. The tree gently sways when the wind kicks up from incoming fog. During the winter months its strength and resilience are challenged from strong winds and rains. The tree gently sways like a metronome. The palm fronds dramatically reach toward the opposite direction. It’s one tough tree.

About three years ago the neighbor behind our house planted a tree. It bears ornamental peaches. It’s full and green. It’ll throws some welcome shade during the summer months. But it’s growing fast and tall. It’s partially blocking the palm tree, my weather sentry. Sure, the peach tree and leaves will wave and sway as the weather changes and make that whispering, whooshing noise. But it’ll lack the silent dramatic swings of the palm tree. Like the weather everything must change. I hate that.
